Fall Family Portraits

The Miranda {Family}

So let me be straightforward and say it, I want ALL of my family session to run the way the Miranda Family's session!  Why? Let me tell you...

The Mirandas are no stranger to my lens.  I have photographed both of their beautiful children since they were newborn babies and I'm always thrilled to see them each year for their family photos. They're pretty much accustomed to my shooting style and know what to expect during our time together.  However, kids sometimes have their own agendas and don't always participate to give you that best Christmas worthy card smile.  At the beginning of their session, we struggled to get Mr. Mason to look and smile at the camera.  We tried everything -- trust me.  But the problem wasn't Mason, the problem was ME.  I was so busy working so hard to get Mason to smile that I was probably only scaring him rather than making him happy.

So I tried a different approach.  I dropped that "look-at-me and say-cheese" line and let the little ones be little.  I say let the kids run! Let the kids be goofy! And most importantly, it's okay if they don't look at the camera!  And guess what? I got all of those fun shots PLUS a few of the whole family smiling, having fun and also a few Christmas card worthy shots (which I will save for their gallery).

I couldn't help but smile as I was editing their images.  So much energy, love, movement, adventure, and snuggles, which is the natural spirit of the Miranda Family today. :-)
